Although I enjoy color, there is something about black and white pencil drawings. I love trying to get the subtle differences between the tones and shades correct. I especially like doing black and white pencil drawings of people and faces because I find the human figure fascinating. There is so much detail in the face, the hands, the mouth. That is what makes black and white pencil drawings of people so difficult. Trying to capture a person's mood is a challenge for drawings done in pencil as well. I try to draw pictures that show people in an emotional state, be it happiness, sadness, or anger. That is why I like pencil drawings where the subject does not know they have been captured. They are more spontaneous. I drew all of the pencil drawings on this page with a regular 2B pencil that you can find at any store. I have never used the other types of pencils, like HB, 5H, or 6B. I don't think I could switch pencils in the middle of drawing. I would lose the flow.
Note: The first five pencil drawings (which are mostly drawings of people) include commissioned black and white drawings. Supplies used to produce these black and white pencil drawings include 2B graphite pencils, a

As I stated above, a lot of my drawings were inspired by
The Photo Book.
I especially liked the black and white photographs in the book. Below I have listed some
black
and white posters that you can get at allposters.com. I cannot say that I ‘get‘ photography,
but I do like black and white photography a lot. Seeing that you are viewing my black and white pencil
drawings, I thought you might like black and white photography yourself. |
